Cyber defense is essential in regional security context, DefMin Tilvar says
The minister of National Defense, Angel Tilvar, believes that cyber defense is essential in the current regional security context.
According to a statement sent on Saturday by the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), Minister Tilvar and the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, participated in the ceremony of handing over the Battle Flag to the Cyber Defense Command, told Agerpres.
„In a short period, the authority responsible for the fields of cyber security and defense, respectively information technology, has become an essential part of the forces that actively participate in the generation of operational effects in support of the operations and missions of the entire army. In the regional security context, as well as in the general dynamics of the army’s development, cyber defense is essential”, said the minister, quoted in the MApN press release.
For his part, the Chief of the Defense Staff emphasized the importance of this structure within the national defense system.
„I congratulate the staff of the Cyber Defense Command for the activity and successes recorded in these first five years, especially since today’s festive moment is also crowned by the awarding of the Battle Flag, the identity symbol of any military unit. Digital transformation and the integration of new technologies will remain priorities for the Romanian Army, priorities for which we count on the professionalism, expertise and dedication of military computer scientists,” General Petrescu said.
The Cyber Defense Command was established on December 1, 2018, is subordinate to the Chief of the Defense Staff and represents the competent authority of the Ministry of Defense in the fields of cyber security, cyber defense and information technology.
„CDC is part of the forces that actively participate in the fulfillment of the missions of the Romanian Army, having, in this context, the role of planning, organizing, leading and carrying out actions in cyber space, in order to ensure the protection and functional resilience of cyber infrastructures and the generation of effects in support of own forces, in a national or allied context, as well as the management and development of military cyber infrastructures and information technology services provided to users,” the ministry says.
