MEP Tomac welcomes EC President’s call for Romania, Bulgaria to be brought into Schengen area
MEP Eugen Tomac has welcomed President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen having said on Wednesday in a speech to the plenary session of the European Parliament that „Bulgaria and Romania are part of our Schengen area. So let us finally bring them in – without any further delay.”
„Ursula von der Leyen’s speech today was much closer to the reality of our days: a different approach, much more assumed and responsible. The European Commission finally became more pragmatic and attentive to the expectations of EU citizens. Finally, she firmly demanded that Romania and Bulgaria be accepted in the Schengen area without further delay. A clear and firm tone can give results, but we, the Romanians, need facts, not just positive messages,” Tomac wrote in a social media post.
Regarding the annual State of the Union speech, Tomac also noted the commitment to support Moldova to integrate with the EU as soon as possible, which „becomes a reality every day.”
„From agriculture to technological development, from the risks Artificial Intelligence poses to us to energy independence, from the need to support SMEs in Europe to the transition to clean energy. All these subjects need our increased attention. They are objectives that cannot be changed, but they can be improved! In less than 300 days we will have European parliamentary elections in which young people born in 2006 will participate for the first time. The best answer to the call of history for the younger generation remains the European design and we must fight for it.”
