Romania celebrating Firefighters Day
Military and religious ceremonies and laying of wreaths will be organised today throughout the country at hero firefighters’ memorials.
On Romanian Firefighters Day, exercises and demonstrations will take place nationwide, mobile preventive information venues will be set up, exhibitions of firefighting equipment will be mounted, and other activities open to the public will be held, the General Emergency Management Inspectorate (IGSU) reports.
Fire brigades throughout the country will open their doors to all those who wish to familiarise themselves with the specifics of this rescue profession.
In Bucharest, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will participate in the opening of the new Persani Emergency Management Inspectorate in Bucharest District 4.
Also in Bucharest, wreaths will be laid in honour of the firefighters killed in action, at the „Hero Firefighters” memorial on Calea 13 Septembrie.
Today it is 175 years since the Bucharest Fire Company, led by Captain Pavel Zaganescu, waged a fierce battle against the numerous Ottoman armies that came to defeat the revolutionary movement of 1848 on Spirii Hill.
